Done Is Better Than Perfect: Trusting the Process and Embracing Progress
Done is better than perfect. It’s the mantra I come back to time and time again—because let’s be honest, perfection is a moving target we’ll never quite hit. And the truth? You don’t need to.
I can’t tell you how many times the idea of writing a blog, scheduling a Facebook post, or recording a podcast left me paralysed. Not because I didn’t have ideas, but because I was convinced it wouldn’t be "perfect" enough. Sound familiar?
The Myth of Perfection
Here’s the thing—perfection isn’t real. It’s not some universal standard we can all measure up to. It’s subjective, shaped by our personal experiences and expectations. What’s "perfect" to one person might not even register to another. So when we get stuck chasing this illusion, we’re really just holding ourselves back.
Progress Over Perfection
The magic happens when we shift our focus from perfection to progress. Every time you take a step forward—no matter how small—you’re moving closer to your goals. Even if what you create isn’t "perfect," it’s done, and that’s powerful. It means you’ve taken action, and action leads to growth.
Top Tips to Move Beyond Perfection Paralysis:
1. Start before you’re ready.
That idea in your head? It stays a concept until you give it life. Whether it’s a blog, a podcast, or a new business idea, getting it done is the first step to making it real.
2. Done doesn’t mean finished forever.
Just because something is "done" doesn’t mean you can’t revisit, tweak, or improve it later. Think of your work as evolving, just like you.
3. Trust the process.
Growth isn’t linear. Some days will feel like big leaps forward, others will feel like baby steps. Both are valuable. What matters is that you’re moving.
4. Progress should feel sustainable.
It’s not about burning yourself out to get things "done." Find a pace that feels manageable and balanced for you. Sustainable progress is what leads to long-term success.
5. Embrace the stretch zone.
Growth happens when we step out of our comfort zones—but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Stretch yourself just enough to feel challenged without feeling paralysed.
Trust Yourself and Keep Moving
When you’re creating, putting yourself out there, or trying something new, the fear of getting it wrong or being judged will creep in. But here’s the truth—if you help just one person, or learn one thing along the way, it’s worth it.
Every time you finish something, you’re building momentum. You’re showing yourself that you can take action, and with each step, your confidence grows. Over time, things that once felt hard will become second nature.
So if your overthinking, self-doubting brain is trying to hold you back, give yourself a gentle reminder: Done is better than perfect. Progress isn’t about rushing—it’s about moving forward in a way that feels balanced and sustainable.
You’ve got this. Keep going—I believe in you.
