Starting Over: The Power of Self-Healing and Saying Yes to Your Path

Life has a way of redirecting us, often in ways we never expect. For many spiritual women, healers, and holistic practitioners, the journey isn't always a straight line. Sometimes, we start, stop, lose ourselves, and have to find our way back.

I would like to share with you Melissa Marratt's inspiring story of resilience, deep healing, and finally saying yes to herself. After years of learning, healing others, and overcoming personal struggles, she’s now stepping into a new phase—one where she fully commits to herself and the work she’s meant to do.

The Power of Self-Healing and Saying Yes to Your Path

A Lifelong Passion for Healing

Melissa’s path as a holistic therapist began 20 years ago when she trained in massage and aromatherapy. Over the years, she immersed herself in Reiki, colour therapy, crystal healing, Hopi ear candles, and nutrition—always learning, always growing. But life had other plans.

Despite her love for holistic healing, she never fully stepped into the business side of it. Lack of support, fear, and confidence struggles held her back. She recalls how, in the early days, she attempted to advertise her services but quickly withdrew after being met with inappropriate responses. Without the confidence she has now, she put her business dreams on hold and focused on caring for others—while quietly neglecting herself.

Hitting Rock Bottom

Like so many healers, Melissa gave to others before giving to herself. Over time, this led to physical illness and emotional exhaustion.

In 2022, she faced a life-altering health crisis—pneumonia, pancreatitis, slight heart failure, and a clot on her lung. It was a wake-up call, but one that came after years of pushing through pain and ignoring her own needs.

The real turning point, however, came when she reached her lowest moment—one she now speaks about with raw honesty. Overwhelmed, struggling with chronic pain, and convinced her marriage was crumbling, she found herself at her darkest point ever. But in that moment, something shifted. A glimmer of hope appeared, urging her to take a different path.

Choosing Herself: A New Beginning

Following this, Melissa made a powerful choice—to stop putting herself last. She joined a spiritual training network and travelled abroad for three weeks, immersing herself in transformational learning. She trained in QiGong worked with renowned mentors, and started shedding the weight of old patterns.

Now, she’s doing the deep inner work—shadow work, clearing old traumas, and stepping into alignment. She’s releasing toxic relationships, setting boundaries, and, for the first time, putting herself first.

The Future: From Healing to Business

2024 marks a turning point for Melissa. She’s not just learning for the sake of learning anymore—she’s actively building her business. Her vision? To create retreats that combine holistic therapies, sound healing, breathwork, and nutrition to support others in their healing journeys.

Her biggest lesson so far? “You can’t help anyone else unless you help yourself first.” A truth so many healers know but often ignore.

Why This Matters to You

Melissa’s journey is one many holistic practitioners will recognise—giving endlessly, losing themselves, and then having to reclaim their place in the world.

If you’re someone who has stepped away from your business (or never quite got it off the ground), know this: It’s never too late to start again. The most important thing isn’t how many times you’ve stopped—it’s that you find the courage to begin again, this time with yourself at the centre.

Melissa’s story is still unfolding, and we’ll be keeping an eye on her journey. When she’s further along in her business, I can’t wait to have her on the podcast to share how she’s built her dream.

Life is.... what you want it to be

For now, I hope her story reminds you of this: You are worthy of your own healing, your own success, and your own second chance.
