Tap Into Your Three Brains: A Powerful Decision-Making Tool for Alignment

Where’s Your Head At?

If you’re now humming Basement Jaxx—you’re welcome.

Now, let’s talk about something fascinating that could change the way you make decisions. Have you ever felt torn between what your head is telling you, what your heart feels, and what your gut knows? That’s because you’re not working with just one brain—you actually have three.

You Have Three Brains?!

Yep, neuroscience confirms it. We each have three fully functioning ‘brains’ that help us process and respond to the world:

  • Head Brain (Cephalic) – The centre of logic, problem-solving, and creativity.

  • Heart Brain (Cardiac) – The seat of emotions, passion, and compassion.

  • Gut Brain (Enteric) – The core of intuition, courage, and self-protection.

Ever had a gut feeling about something? Or felt something deep in your heart?

That’s because these three powerful centres process information independently and in sync. When you bring them into alignment, your decision-making becomes clearer and more powerful.

A Simple 5-Step Three-Brain Check-In

I use this method in all areas of my life—from business decisions to personal choices. It helps me realign, gain clarity, and make choices that feel right on all levels. Here’s how you can do it too:

Step 1: Create Space & Breathe

Find a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed. If you’re new to this, set aside 20 minutes so you don’t feel rushed. Take three to five deep, slow breaths, bringing your awareness into the present moment.

Step 2: Head Check

Bring your attention to your headspace. What thoughts are showing up around your decision or challenge? Notice any logical reasoning, analysis, or doubts coming through.

Step 3: Heart Check

Shift your focus to your heart. Place your hand over your chest if it helps you connect. Ask yourself: How do I feel about this decision? What do I care about? What are my deeper intentions? Let your heart’s wisdom come through without overanalyzing.

Step 4: Gut Check

Bring your awareness to your gut. Again, place a hand over your abdomen to tune in. What does your intuition say? Are there any gut feelings, physical sensations, or hunches about this situation? Your gut is often the first to react, even if your head and heart take longer to process.

Step 5: Integrate & Decide

Take a deep, intentional breath and collect the insights from all three brains. Now ask yourself: What should I do? The answer may feel more aligned and clear now that all parts of you have had their say.

Using This Method Anytime, Anywhere

You don’t need 20 minutes to do this every time. Once you’ve practiced, a quick check-in can be done in seconds—even in the middle of a busy day or conversation. I often do a mini version when making business choices, responding to emails, or deciding how to structure my day.
